Waterside, Church Walk – Cheltenham

Location: Waterside, Church Walk, Cheltenham

Case Type: Replacement Dwelling

Council: Cheltenham Borough Council

Status: Approved

BPA are delighted to announce securing Planning Permission for a modern replacement dwelling at Waterside in Cheltenham.

Following on from the granting of a previous permission on the site, we worked closely with the clients to piece together a new application.

In the hopes of providing a bespoke, contemporary property for our clients, this application sought permission for an updated external design to the previously approved dwelling as well as an alternative interior layout.

The updated external design responds beautifully to the properties unique setting along the River Chelt, as well as meeting all of the clients day-to-day needs in terms of essential functioning as a family home.

In regards to the new design, Cheltenham Borough Council Architectural Panel concluded that “the architecture is even arguably improved as it is an updated design which reflects up-to-date styles and techniques.”

Warndon Parish Neighbourhood Plan

Warndon Parish Neighbourhood Plan

Warndon Parish Neighbourhood Plan

Working with Warndon Parish since September 2018

Worcester City Council.

Project by project basis

As they are a well established group with several areas of expertise we are assisting them on a project by project basis depending on their needs.

We have helped them to develop an extremely comprehensive residents’ questionnaire which generated a fantastic level of response and will inform the development of their Plan.

We undertook full analysis of the questionnaire presenting the results to the group; highlighting the main trends and the implications for policy development, as well as identifying areas for further research.

We are currently working with the group to produce a Green Space Background Paper. We have provided them with a framework to undertake assessments and have been helping them to review the green space in their parish. We are starting to explore policy options that will be specific to the needs of the parish.

Low carbon ’round house’ classroom for Chipping Campden School

BPA are pleased to have secured planning permission for the erection of a low-carbon ‘roundhouse’ classroom for craft education at Chipping Campden School.
In September 2017 Chipping Campden School launched a new course called V.Cert Craft. This course enables students to gain hands-on experience in a range of rural and creative crafts. The skills and experience gained will link directly to and build upon the long tradition and renowned rural crafts found in the local area, the Cotswolds. Crafts will include working with green wood, ceramics, leather, carving, enamel work etc. The course will support and encourage students to pursue futures in craft fields, either through apprenticeship, further study, direct employment or self-employment. It will also enable others to appreciate craftsmanship and perhaps to take up a craft as an interest or hobby.

The green credentials of this building are a key design principle in this project. The building will be a low-carbon construction with high insulation values. Locally available and recycled materials will be used and will include – stone for the base and straw for the walls from nearby farms; larch poles from local estates for the roof timbers; clay for the wall coatings from the local brickworks; and recycled timber and windows. The roof will be cedar shingle which will be sourced from a nearby tree located a couple of hundred yards away. Heating will be from a wood-fired stove. Electricity will be from a small solar PV array with mains connection for back-up.
